Licensing

The center is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Social Services. Standards require the facility to meet applicable fire, health and building codes in addition to licensing standards. Compliance with standards is determined by announced and unannounced visits to the program. When three types of licenses were issued to programs, the center operated with a three year license, which meant the program substantially met and exceeded the standards for licensure. Because of changes in the Code of Virginia, all programs will be licensed for a two-year period. Exceeding the standards remains our goal.

Accreditation Information

The center is accredited by the International Accreditation and Certification of Childhood Educators, Programs, and Trainers. The center has served as a demonstration model for this accrediting body and for the National Child Care Association's accreditation program. The center provides (at no cost to the employee) opportunity for all staff to become certified as Early Learning Specialists at three professional levels.
