Preschool Reading & Math READING: Oral language, vocabulary, and other language concept are crucial foundations for success in reading and reading comprehension. Children need strong speaking and listening skills as a basic foundation. One of the best foundations for early reading success is familiarity with the letters of the alphabet. Children who are given opportunity to talk through asking questions and discussing their experiences are laying the groundwork for reading and writing.
MATH: The cycle of learning for preschool math identifies the stages of concept development as awareness, exploration, inquiry, and utilization. Children experience math through number exploration including counting and games. We provide an opportunity for the child to learn familiarity with numbers, geometric shapes, similarities, differences and relationships through hands-on experiences in the classroom. |

Numbers of Children The total licensed capacity for the center is 75 spaces. In exceeding the licensing standards, staff is hired based on enrollment, not on daily attendance. This allows us to provide lower pupil-teacher ratios on a daily basis, which helps reduce the use of substitutes in the classroom and provides greater program continuity for the children. The following pupil-teacher ratios are observed:

| Pre-Kindergarten General Information
PRE-KINDERGARTEN is offered as an alternative choice to another year of preschool/nursery school. It is a program for the four and/or five year old who is socially and academically ready for a more structured program than nursery school offers, but who is not able - for any number of reasons - to participate in a full kindergarten program. We recognize the need for total development of the child. The growing awareness that some children are not socially or emotionally ready for the large groups that public schools provide has created the need for the pre-kindergartener to have a proper type of learning program in a safe and loving environment. Prior to acceptance into the Pre-kindergarten Program, children who have not attended our preschool programs may be required to participate in an assessment for placement. Portions of the Brigance K-1 Assessment and/or the PROFESSIONAL CHILD CARE SERVICES Assessment may be used to determine the child's readiness for this unique class. The assessment is NOT a pass/fail test. Scores are used as partial assessment of the child's current ability to participate in the program. If a child has previously attended any center, teacher recommendations are also considered. |
